Our Commitment Regarding the Recent Election
Dear friends,
The results of this election have left many of us grappling with emotions that words struggle to capture. This moment is more than difficult or disheartening—it’s a searing reminder of how our lives, bodies, and rights are debated and bargained in a political arena that feels increasingly hostile. Watching the rights of those we love politicized in such a manner is frightening and unacceptable.
As we face this unsettling reality, Collaborate PASadena wants to affirm one unshakable truth:
Rhetoric and policies rooted in anti-immigrant, anti-LGBTQIA+, ableist, racist, anti-Muslim, anti-Semitic, or misogynistic ideologies are not just harmful—they are destructive. They should have no place in our communities or this country.
Collaborate PASadena remains steadfast in its commitment to stand with our partners and the communities we serve, marshaling every resource, every ounce of energy, and every available avenue to safeguard and uplift those most affected.
As potential policy changes loom, threatening the rights, safety, and well-being of our communities, we reaffirm our mission: to partner with the community in eliminating structural racism and systemic inequities.
Our Continuing Priorities:
We remain steadfast in our commitment to the ongoing work that supports and uplifts our communities, focusing on equipping local institutions with the resources and support they need to foster safety, success, and inclusivity for all.
Strengthening PUSD’s Community Schools by ensuring they have the resources necessary to leverage their community’s strengths while effectively addressing their needs.
Partnering with caregivers of Transgender and foster youth to understand their unique needs and develop resources and systems that support their well-being.
Establishing the DNA Hub, a space where youth can come together to build community, have fun, and elevate any concerns they may have, fostering an environment of connection and support.
Co-leading a cross-sector coalition for the Week of the Young Child to unite our community in celebrating our youngest residents and their families, while reaffirming our unwavering commitment to nurturing the whole child and empowering them to thrive.
Maintaining strong relationships with our partners, including CCC, PCYF, AAPC, PTA, PERT, and many others, to amplify shared goals and sustain impactful programs that enhance the well-being of all children and families.
Our Next Steps:
We are actively developing action plans and responses, which will be finalized in the coming months. Below is a list of the actions we are prioritizing to ensure we are prepared to support our communities and respond to any challenges that arise. Updates will be shared as we advance our efforts.
Develop coalitions in support of the specific communities we expect to be targeted by policy changes.
Preemptively organize resources and support systems to ensure they are ready to be deployed in response to expected federal priorities.
Engage with frontline leaders to understand the unique needs of our communities and ensure our responses are immediate and impactful.
Partner with the city and school district to aid in the development of their resources and action plans, ensuring we are all prepared to protect and support those most at risk.
Ensure our organization is accessible by creating channels that allow community members to reach out, enabling us to track in real-time how they are being impacted, and develop a rapid response infrastructure to direct resources where and how they are needed most.
Collaborate with our partner network to ensure every organization has the tools and resources they need to effectively protect their communities.
If you wish to join the conversation or support our advocacy, please reach out to me. If you would like to financially support our work, please consider becoming a one-time, or sustaining partner by contributing here. Together, we will meet this moment with resilience, determination, and hope.
In community,
